Terms of service — editorial draft

This is a proposal for legal and operational review, not an agreement governing an operating service. No acceptance or payment is collected. Final operator details, policies and the care relationship must be approved before launch.

1. Agreement and eligibility

These terms govern the BabysittersToronto.ca platform and its booking services. You must be at least 18 to open a family account and have authority to arrange care and provide relevant information about the children. Sitter applicants must meet the separate sitter eligibility requirements. You agree to provide accurate information and keep account access secure.

2. What we provide

We provide request, messaging, booking and payment tools, administer our stated sitter onboarding process and support confirmed bookings. We do not promise that a sitter will be available or that a particular person will accept a request. Screening has limits, as described in Our standards.

3. Care relationship

4. Requests and confirmations

Submitting a request does not create a confirmed care booking. Confirmation requires acceptance by the family and sitter, valid payment arrangements and a platform confirmation. A booking records the date, start and end times, sitter, rate, duties, applicable policies and total estimate. Material changes require acceptance by both parties. Requests may be declined when outside our service scope.

5. Service scope

The initial service is occasional care at the family home for up to three children aged 3 or older from one family. The four-hour minimum and published request/visit windows apply. No driving children, overnight care, swimming supervision, event childcare or routine medication administration is offered at launch. Any accommodation must be individually assessed and agreed; do not misrepresent a sitter’s qualifications.

6. Fees and authorisation

Occasional costs $45 per completed booking and is not a subscription. Family costs $99 per month and renews until cancelled. Sitter pay, approved expenses and applicable taxes are separate. Prices and the payment schedule appear before acceptance. Any preauthorisation must show the amount and purpose; an authorisation is not a completed charge. We do not add unapproved tips or extras.

7. Membership

Membership begins on purchase, renews monthly and covers eligible visits starting in a paid membership period. It belongs to one household and cannot be resold. Unlimited bookings remain subject to actual sitter availability and the service scope. Cancel online before the next renewal charge to prevent renewal. Remaining-period access and refunds follow Cancellation & refunds and applicable law. A price change requires advance notice and any consent required by law; it does not alter an already confirmed visit’s agreed sitter rate.

8. Cancellations, time and disputes

The Cancellation & refunds policy is part of this agreement and is displayed before confirmation. Actual time is recorded in 15-minute increments, with an itemised calculation. Extensions require agreement. Families may report a time discrepancy during the 24-hour review window following submission; later complaints are still reviewed and legal rights are preserved. Disputed amounts are held for review where the payment system permits; undisputed sitter pay should not be unnecessarily delayed.

9. Family responsibilities

Provide truthful information about children’s ages, care requirements, allergies, pets, recording devices and household hazards. Supply emergency contacts and remain reachable. Provide a safe workplace and necessary care supplies. Do not ask for prohibited duties or leave additional children without agreement. Disclose illness or material changes before the visit so suitability can be reassessed.

10. Conduct and safety

Harassment, discrimination, abuse, threats, fraud, unsafe requests and false reviews are prohibited. Users must not publish private family, child or sitter information. Recording must be lawful, disclosed and respectful of private spaces. In an emergency call 911 first; notify the parent and platform when safe. Our platform is not an emergency response service.

11. Platform bookings and direct arrangements

Use the platform to record and pay for visits arranged through this service. Private arrangements outside the platform are not platform bookings and do not receive its booking support or any coverage specifically tied to registered visits. We may review misuse or suspend future access with notice where appropriate. No automatic $5,000 penalty or forfeiture of earned sitter pay is imposed by this draft.

12. Reviews and user content

Reviews must reflect a genuine completed booking, avoid identifying children and contain no threats, discrimination or private contact details. We may remove content that violates these rules, with a reason and a review route. We do not remove criticism merely because it is negative. Displayed rating calculations must reflect published eligible reviews. You permit us to display the content you intentionally submit for publication for operating this service; private care notes are not public content.

13. Privacy

The Privacy Policy explains personal information collection, use, disclosure, safeguards and rights. Marketing consent is separate. Using this service does not authorise sharing your family’s private profile with NannyServices.ca for marketing.

14. Suspension and closure

We may temporarily restrict accounts to investigate safety, payment or fraud concerns. Notify affected users when lawful and safe, explain the review route and address active bookings. Suspension does not automatically cancel earned sitter pay or entitle us to retain unearned family payments. Users may request account closure, subject to necessary transaction and legal records.

15. Responsibility and statutory rights
